City of Grande Prairie proposes sale of land next to Activity and Reception Centre

The City of Grande Prairie is planning to sell a piece of land to be used as affordable housing.

A proposed sale of Lot 3, Block 5, next to the Activity and Reception Centre is being organized between the City and Smith Social Enterprises Ltd., an incorporated entity created by the Grande Spirit Foundation. The purchase price would be $1.

Under the proposed sale, Smith Social will be required to construct a residential development in which, for a period of 20 years, 30 per cent of the units must be rented as affordable housing.

City residents have been given time to submit a petition objecting to the sale.

If no sufficient petition has been submitted by October 7, the city and Smith may proceed.
