A little pre-race shower didn’t dampen spirits in Dawson Creek on Sunday evening for the last night of chuckwagon races in the Battle of the North.

A spectacular Championship Final Heat had 2023’s reigning champ Rae Croteau Jr., alongside Chad Fike, Jason Glass, and Jamie Laboucane.

Croteau Jr. captured the crown for the second year in a row with a penalty-free run of 1:16.58. It was also the second consecutive year that Laboucane lost to Croteau Jr. in the Battle of the North.

The day money winner was Grande Prairie native Chanse Vigen despite not making it into the Championship Final Heat. Vigen did manage to get the best time of the night of 1:15.82; 76-hundredths of a second faster than Croteau Jr.
