Vigen wins Battle of the Rockies for second consecutive year

Grande Prairie product Chanse Vigen is on a hot streak heading into the final racing weekend of the chuckwagon season at the end of the month in Ponoka.

Vigen has pulled off winning the Rocky Mountain House Battle of the North for two consecutive years now, and sits in the top spot in the World Standings for the WPCA World Chuckwagon Finals.

Outriders Rory Armstrong and Ethan Motowylo also emerged as champions alongside Vigen. The outfit posted the best four-day aggregate time of 5:20.64.

This was the fourth win of the season for the defending World Champion; he has now won the Battle of the Rockies, Medicine Hat Stampede, the Battle of the Foothills, and the Strathmore Stampede crowns in 2024 alone.

The twelve drivers that have qualified for the Century Downs WINNERS’ ZONE Playoff Round are:

  • Chanse Vigen
  • Rae Croteau Jr.
  • Jason Glass
  • Jamie Laboucane
  • Chad Fike
  • Layne MacGillivary
  • Obrey Motowylo
  • Kurt Bensmiller
  • Wade Salmond
  • Kris Molle

The top four of this group with the most playoff points will advance to the Championship Final.

The World Champion driver with the most accumulated points over the course of the season will be crowned the title.

Vigen currently has an 80.5 point advantage over Rae Croteau Jr., Jason Glass is 90 points back, with Jamie Laboucane and Chad Fike 130 and 138 points back respectively in the chase for the World Chuckwagon Championship.

The WPCA World Chuckwagon Finals start on Wednesday, August 28, and go til Saturday, September 1.
