Laboucane #1 following Day 1 at WPCA World Chuckwagon Finals

After Wednesday’s kick-off races for the World Professional Chuckwagon Association’s season closer was postponed due to rainy weather, races resumed Thursday night.

The Wild West WPCA World Chuckwagon Finals Aggregate Championship are held down in Ponoka.

Thursday night was a warm 19 degrees and racetrack conditions were drastically better than the night before. The postponement of the show means the final races will go Monday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.

Jamie Laboucane posted the best time of the night, with a penalty-free run of 1:16.79. The driver posting the best 4-day aggregate time after Monday’s run will be declared the champion of the Wild West WPCA World Chuckwagon Finals race meet.

Alongside the main event, 12 “elite drivers” are racing in the Century Downs “Winner’s Zone” Series Playoff Round. Jamie Laboucane also is competing in this event and has earned 12 points from his Thursday night run.

The four drivers in the playoff points standings after Saturday night will compete in the Championship Final Heat where they will be racing for $50,000.00 cash and the prestige of being recognized as the Century Downs Racetrack and Casino “WINNERS’ ZONE” Series Champion.

The World Champion Chuckwagon Driver will be declared Sunday night for the driver that has accumulated the most points over the season. Currently, Grande Prairie native Chanse Vigen sits atop the standings, 76.5 points over Rae Croteau Jr.

Vigen is searching for a second consecutive title after being crowned the World Champion in 2023.
