Two dead, more injured following motorcycle and semi collision on Highway 2

Update #2 on September 1, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. – Faust RCMP say on August 31, at 11:42 a.m., several motorcycles were involved in a serious collison when an oncoming semi-truck crossed the centre line on Highway 2 near Range Road 143.

An off duty officer was already attending the scene when emergency crews arrived.

Multiple riders were injured in the crash and two were pronounced dead at the scene. The two deceased have been identified as a 38-year-old man from Driftpile Cree Nation and a 33-year-old individual from Edmonton.

At least six others were taken to hospital with varying levels of injuries.

Initial investigation has reveled the motorcycles were travelling in a large group when the semi crossed the centre line into their lane of traffic and striking riders.

Alcohol impairment is not believed to be a factor in this collision and investigation continues.

RCMP send their condolences to the loved ones of the deceased.

Update on September 1, 2024, at 7 a.m. – RCMP are clear from the scene and traffic flow has returned to normal.

Mounties are expected to release additional information on the collision.

Original release – RCMP in Faust are advising the public that a serious motor vehicle collision has occurred on Highway 2 near Range Road 143, between Arcadia and Joussard. It is redirecting traffic from the area.

Emergency workers are on scene and Mounties anticipate they will be there for several hours.
