Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit investigating found human remains

The Alberta Major Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation surrounding the circumstances of a deceased resident of the Northwest Territories..

On August 15, Mounties located human remains in Mackenzie County, and transported them to the Chief Medical Examiner’s office in Edmonton to be identified.

Four days later, on August 19, the remains were identified as 41-year-old Tyler Peterson of Hay River, who was reported missing earlier in the summer on July 14.

The Chief Medical Examiner also determined the cause of death to be homicide.

An investigation is now underway. The Alberta MCU will work with its Northwest Territories counterpart during this case.
