County Peace Officer stops vehicle going 211 km/h

Sep 11, 2024 | 12:00 PM

On Saturday, September 7, a Peace Officer with the County of Grande Prairie’s Regional Enforcement Services conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle going over two-and-a-half times over the posted speed limit.

The vehicle was going at 211 km/h in a 80 km/h zone.

This resulted in the driver getting a mandatory court appearance with potential for penalities such as; license suspension, large fines, jail time, and six demerit points.

The County says in a social media post that Regional Enforcement Services has found a rise in high-speed traffic violations in 2024.

Data from a study done in 2017 by Alberta Transportation found more than 25 per cent of fatal collisions resulted from motorists driving at unsafe speeds, exceeding posted limits and/or going to fast for the roads condition.

The County wants to remind all motorists to drive responsibly and obey posted signage and speed limits.
