Sep 13, 2024 | 3:25 PM

Grande Prairie RCMP are looking for the suspect in an assault with a weapon that happened early Friday morning (September 13).

Mounties say they were called out to 107 Avenue between 99 and 100 Streets after getting a report of an attempted theft and possible stabbing.

When they arrived at the scene, police found a man with a wound on his arm.

The man told RCMP that he caught someone going through his vehicle. The man then tired to detain the suspect but was struck with an edged weapon. The suspect took off on a bicycle.

The male suspect was wearing dark coloured pants, a black hoodie and was carrying a large backpack.

Police are asking eyewitnesses and anyone that may have video from that area taken between 4:50 and 5:10 a.m. to contact them.

The Grande Prairie RCMP can be reached at 780-830- 5701.

Any witnesses who want to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), online at www.P3Tips.com or by using the “P3 Tips” app available through the Apple App or Google Play Store.

Mounties also warn that it is dangerous to chase or confront suspects in situations like this, adding that they may be armed and will use violence to avoid being captured.
