RCMP issue emergency alert in Mayerthorpe area after robbery

UPDATE: RCMP have now issued a news release that says they no longer believe two robbery suspects are in the immediate area near Mayerthorpe.

A Dangerous Person Alert remains in place for Mayerthorpe and Lac Ste. Anne County.

Alberta RCMP issued the alert because two armed men were thought to be in the area.

They were suspects in a vehicle theft out of Edmonton. That vehicle has been recovered.

People are still being asked to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police or Crime Stoppers.

 

A Dangerous Person Alert remains in place for the Mayerthorpe and Lac Ste. Anne County areas.

Alberta RCMP issued the alert because two armed men, suspects in a robbery, are on foot and believed to be in the vicinity.

The alert covers the area between Highway 18, Township Road 752 and Range Roads 80 and 92 near Mayerthorpe.

The first suspect is described as a white male about 30-years-old, 5’11”, 205 pounds with dark hair, brown eyes, and wearing a cowboy hat.

The second suspect is also described as a white male, sic feet tall, 220 pounds, with brown hair, blue eyes, wearing a black, flat-brimmed hat with red letters.

People are being asked to not pick up hitchhikers or open their door to strangers, to not approach the suspects and to report any possible sightings to 911.
