Armwrestling tournament in Grande Prairie Saturday

Sep 20, 2024 | 1:20 PM

The armwrestling club in Grande Prairie is hosting a tournament this weekend at the Jackpot Events Centre.

The Northern Twistmasters are putting on their annual “Fall Brawl” Saturday, featuring some big names in the sport.

The event starts Friday evening with weigh-ins, that run into Saturday morning before the event truly starts with five Supermatches at 11 a.m.

Coach and past-president of the Northern Twistmasters Doug Curtiss says the turnout for this event might be the best they’ve seen yet.

“It’s going to eclipse anything we’ve done before. Prince George’s club is bringing 12 members alone. We also have guys coming up from Vancouver and Manitoba.”

Curtiss says the event doesn’t just end Saturday. There is also a training seminar being held on Sunday with World Armwrestling Leagues Todd “Toddzilla” Hutchings.

“Hutchings will also be our guest MC, being one of the colour commentators. He is one of the premier guys in the sport.”

The “Fall Brawl” is free to attend. Curtiss says to anyone that has been looking into getting into the sport of armwrestling that there is something for everybody.

“If anybody wants to walk in off the street and give it a try, there is novice, youth, and pro divisions.”

He encourages all to come out and watch the matches go on, as they are fast and exciting.
