Mayerthorpe Public Safety Alert leads to a warrant for Grande Prairie local

Mayerthorpe RCMP are continuing their investigation and have put out a warrant for a suspects arrest following a public safety alert issued for the town.

On Tuesday, September 17, an alert was put out after Mounties received a report of a vehicle theft from Edmonton heading in their direction; officers tried to stop the vehicle but it took off with two suspects inside and was later found abandoned.

An arrest warrant has been issued for 30-year-old Grande Prairie resident Santiago Patterson, who is facing eight charges including:

  • Kidnapping with a firearm
  • Robbery with a firearm
  • Theft of truck
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Uttering threats against a person
  • Fail to comply with firearms prohibition

Mayerthorpe RCMP ask anyone who has information on Santiago Patterson or his whereabouts is asked to contact their local detachment, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).

The other suspect turned himself over to RCMP with his family and was brought before a justice of the peace before being remanded into custody.

Twenty-eight-year-old Dakota Patterson of Whitecourt had nine charges laid against him:

  • Kidnapping with a firearm
  • Robbery with a firearm
  • Theft of truck
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Flight from a Peace Officer
  • Fail to comply with firearms prohibition
  • Fail to comply with probation

Mayerthorpe RCMP wanted to reassure residents that this was a targeted incident and there is no longer any imminent risk to the town.
