ALERT Grande Prairie hinders firearm theft

ALERT Grande Prairie’s organized crime team has charged two would-be thieves and prevented nineteen firearms from being stolen during a break-and-enter from hitting city streets.

The guns, which were legally owned and stored, included four handguns, five rifles, and ten shotguns. They were taken from a home in the Patterson Place neighbourhood in late July, along with nearly 500 rounds of ammunition.

With assistance from the Grande Prairie RCMP and Grande Prairie Police Service, ALERT was able to prevent the firearms from finding their way to the streets, and on September 11 charges were laid against 40-year-old Tasha Lanz and 42-year-old Denai Lanz.
