Storm, NWJHL, GPCC AGM, Wolves this weekend

Storm

The Storm are playing Canmore Friday afternoon at the AJHL Showcase in Calgary.

Grande Prairie beat Fort McMurray 3-0 Thursday night at the showcase. Nicholas Jones made 28 saves for the shutout. Chase Christensen had two of the Storm’s goals.

The Storm are in first place in the North Division, one point ahead of Whitecourt. The Wolverines won both of their showcase games, 5-2 over Camrose and 3-1 over Lloydminster.

NWJHL

In the Northwest Junior Hockey League Friday, Fairview is in Peace River.

On Saturday, Fort St. John is in Beaverlodge, La Crete visits the Wheat Kings, Dawson Creek in Fairview and Sexsmith at Peace River.

All those games start at 8 p.m.

On Sunday, La Crete is in Beaverlodge and Dawson Creek will be in Sexsmith.

Both those games start at 2 p.m.

Curling

The Grande Prairie Curling Centre will host its supper, awards and annual general meeting Saturday night.

Supper will start at 6 p.m.

The Try-It Day set for Saturday has been cancelled.

Wolves

Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves soccer visits Portage College in Lac La Biche Saturday at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. and Sunday at noon and 2 p.m., starting with the women’s game both days.

Cross-country running competes in Calgary Saturday. St. Mary’s University is the host school.

The volleyball and basketball regular seasons start November 1.

The basketball teams have exhibition games at Concordia University of Edmonton on October 4.
