Suspected drug lab busted outside of Valleyview

Oct 3, 2024 | 12:12 PM

The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team is currently searching a rural property near Valleyview suspected of being an illegal drug manufacturing lab.

The search warrant at the property is part of an investigation alongside the RCMP’s Clandestine Laboratory Enforcement Response Team. The lab is being dismantled as of Thursday, October 3.

One person has been taken into custody regarding this matter.

ALERT suspects the lab was making fentanyl in major quantities, but is too early to speculate the scope of its operations. The police watchdog also says the property “possesses all the tools, materials, and chemicals necessary to mass produce fentanyl.”

Teams are working to “remediate the threat” with public safety partners at the drug lab.

The execution of the search warrant started on Wednesday, October 2, and is expected to last several days.

Members of the public who suspect drug or gang activity in their community can call their local police, or anonymously through Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
