APG seeking advisors in all zones to grow pulse industry

Oct 9, 2024 | 7:41 PM

The Alberta Pulse Growers (APG) are inviting pulse producers who want to grow the province’s industry while developing leadership skills to apply to be an advisor during zone meetings this fall.

A team of advisors leads extension activities specific to each of APG’s five zones.

Available positions and fall meeting dates are as follows:

  • Zone One: Five available advisor positions. Meeting falls December 3 in Taber.
  • Zone Two: Two advisor positions available. Meeting on November 14 in Red Deer.
  • Zone Three: Three available advisor positions. Meeting on November 5 in Barrhead.
  • Zone Four: Seven positions available. Meeting on November 12 in Fairview.
  • Zone Five: Two available advisor positions. Meeting on November 6 in Camrose.

“Any interested pulse farmers are strongly encouraged to join the APG team,” APG chair Shane Strydhorst said. “I began as an Advisor like most APG directors, and it has been a very rewarding experience. Becoming an advisor is a great way to get involved in the industry. Each of our five zones has available positions and it’s a good introduction to the organization, working on committees, and making things happen for Alberta pulse farmers.”

To be eligible as an advisor, producers need to have sold pulses and paid service charges since August 1, 2022. Anyone interested is asked to complete and submit a nomination form by November 4, 2024. Each candidate must be endorsed by another pulse producer from their zone.

Registration for zone meetings can also be done online.
