Mounties in High Level released details about a shooting that happened in that community in the summertime.

On June 27, 2024, RCMP responded to reports of multiple shots being fired at the Circle-K convenience store in High Level.

Witnesses to the incident reported two vehicles were involved and fled from the location.

Officers were able to locate the two vehicles attempting to leave the town and conducted a high-risk traffic stop on one vehicle.

All occupants were taken into custody and a search of the people and vehicle found cocaine, a prohibited firearm with a loaded magazine, 9mm ammunition, and brass knuckles.

RCMP believe after investigating that this was a targeted shooting.

Twenty-six-year-old Cornell D’or of John D’or Prairie, 28-year-old Joey Naanoch of Fort Vermillion, 32-year-old Patrick Naanoch of High Level, and 24-year-old Kassidy Sewepagaham of John D’or Prairie have all been charged with:

  • Reckless discharge of a firearm
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon (X2)
  • Possession of a firearm in vehicle
  • Possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition
  • Using a firearm in commission to offence
  • Unsafe storage of a firearm
  • Possession of schedule 1 substance (cocaine)

Cornell was also charged with four counts of possession contrary to order and pointing a firearm.

Both Naanoch men were also charged with pointing a firearm, along the eight other charges.

All of the accused have attended court for their first appearances and have subsequent court dates in the future.
