The Alberta Council of Women’s Shelters has awarded Fran Story of the Fairview Crossroads Resource Centre & Women’s Shelter with their Joie Dery Award.

The award was presented at their AGM on September 26.

Fran Story has worked at the Crossroads Resource Centre for over 37 years.

The centre’s Executive Director Wendy Biegel said in a media release; Story has an “unwavering and exceptional commitment to advocate on behalf of the women and children experiencing domestic violence is nothing short of remarkable.”

Story is described as a mentor and role model at the Fairview shelter.

“Fran has an exceptional ability to support and inspire others to find their strength and courage in the face of overwhelming barriers, and limited resources. Fran continues to possess an unwavering commitment to excellence, a willingness to collaborate and uplift others, and resilience in the face of everyday challenges,” Biegel said.

The ACWS Joie Dery Award recognizes shelter staff that bring tireless commitment to social justice and ending domestic abuse in Alberta.
