Oct 15, 2024 | 1:22 PM

The City of Grande Prairie’s annual fall and winter elm tree pruning is underway in the community.

City crews will be out pruning elm trees in the College Park, Country Club Estates, Highland Park, Pinnacle Ridge, Lakeland, and VLA (Veteran’s Land Act) neighbourhoods to reduce the risks of Dutch Elm Disease.

In the release, Director of Environment and Parks Kase Devries said; “By focusing on the health and safety of our community’s trees, we can ensure a resilient and vibrant urban forest, this initiative not only helps protect against pests and diseases but also contributes to the natural beauty that our residents value.”

This initiative is done yearly from October to April to abide by the province’s elm pruning ban, which extends from April 1 to September 30.
