High Level RCMP arrest suspect following Forcible Confinement incident

High level RCMP has arrested a suspect for forcible confinement and numerous firearms charges.

On October 7, Mounties responded to a report of a female being forcibly confined and assaulted by her domestic partner, entering the residence under exigent circumstances.

Officers were able to secure the victim and arrested one male at the scene.

A subsequent warrant resulted in the seizure of one restricted firearm, six non-restricted firearms, various ammunition, suspected cocaine, and hard body armour.

26-year-old Matthew Croy has been charged with the following offences:

  • Poss. Restricted Firearm w/ Ammo w/out licence – S.95(1) Criminal Code (CC);
  • Count 1: Possession of Firearm Knowing Poss. Unauthorized – S.92(1) CC);
  • Count 2: Possession of Firearm Knowing Poss. Unauthorized – S.92(1) CC;
  • Count 3: Possession of Firearm Knowing Poss. Unauthorized – S.92(1) CC;
  • Count 4: Possession of Firearm Knowing Poss. Unauthorized – S.92(1) CC;
  • Count 5: Possession of Firearm Knowing Poss. Unauthorized – S.92(1) CC;
  • Count 6: Possession of Firearm Knowing Poss. Unauthorized – S.92(1) CC; and
  • Count 7: Possession of Firearm Knowing Poss. Unauthorized – S.92(1) CC;
  • Using Firearm in the Commission of Offence (Forcible Confinement) – S.84(1)(a) CC;
  • Forcible Confinement – S.279(2) CC;
  • Assault Causing Bodily Harm (via Choking, suffocation, or strangling) – S.267(c) CC;
  • Assault – S.266 CC;
  • Uttering Threats – S.264.1(1)(a) CC;

Croy was brought before a justice of the Peace and released on a $500 cash bail with conditions.

He will next appear at the High-Level Alberta Court of Justice November 4.
