Wolves soccer at home this weekend for the ACAC championships

Oct 24, 2024 | 5:38 PM

The Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves are hosting the ACAC soccer championships this weekend.

Wolves women’s coach Catherine Ridgeway calls the chance to host this event “massive.”

“Not just for us, but I would say the whole soccer community. The best players in the province will be up here in Grande Prairie and its a great opportunity to inspire the younger generation.”

Ridgeway says her team loves the weather being like it has been lately.

“I’m really lucky to have a handful of local recruits and us northern girls are tough and we’re really leaning into that to give us a competitive advantage.”

“That resilience is rubbing off on the whole team and we’re actually hoping for some tough weather conditions. We think that gives us an advantage.”

Ridgeway says her team had a big final weekend of the regular season and has been working on coming together as a team and getting mentally prepared.

Ridgeway is hoping the entire soccer community in the north comes out this weekend.

“You know, especially those families with young soccer stars. We hope this moment is an opportunity for them to dream and imagine themselves playing for the Wolves one day at a championship.”

“That representation is so important and for young athletes to see local players playing on this big stage, it can really make a big impact. So, I’m just hoping everybody gets out.”
