Wild Day 1 for Alberta Bowl in Grande Prairie
One game went to overtime while another saw 150 points scored on the first day of the Alberta Bowl high school football championships being played at CKC Field.
The Peace River Pioneers downed the Ponoka Broncos 19-18 in overtime to win the first-ever 9-a-side Alberta championship.
Ponoka had led 15-0 into the third quarter, before Peace River came back to take an 18-15 lead. The Broncos tied the game, forcing overtime, where the Pioneers won on a 17-yard single point.
In the 6-a-side final, the Millwoods Christian Royals from Edmonton beat the JC Charyk Hawks from Hanna 100-50.
