The final day of the Alberta Bowl at Grande Prairie’s CKC Field on Saturday, November 23 saw three titles handed out, including one at the expense of a hometown team.

The Holy Trinity Academy Knights from Okotoks beat Grande Prairie’s St. Joe’s Celtics 49-9 in the 4A final Saturday afternoon.

Seth Poelzer had four touchdowns for the Knights. His 391 rushing yards set an Alberta Bowl record for all classifications.

Both teams had large groups of noisy supporters in the stands on a chilly day that also had some light snow coming down.

This is the third title for the Knights in the last five seasons.

The first game played on Saturday saw Lloydminster’s Holy Rosary Raiders beat the Cochrane Cobras 22-3 in the 3A final.

The Raiders exacted a measure of revenge on the Cobras, as Cochrane won the title over the Raiders in six straight seasons, from 2015-2021.

The Lloydminster school has now won three titles in a row and advanced to a championship game for 11 straight seasons.

In Saturday’s final game, Edmonton’s Harry Ainley Titans beat the Raymond Comets 37-14 to capture the 5A title.

Titans quarterback George Arbez ran for three touchdowns and threw for one more.

Football Alberta says this is the sixth championship for Harry Ainley since provincials were first held in 1985.
