The Fiance opens at Grande Prairie Live Theatre November 28

Grande Prairie Live Theatre’s production of The Fiancé opens tonight (Thursday, November 28).

Director Wayne Ayling says the comedy follows a woman in post World War II Edmonton, who finds herself in an unusual situation.

“Through different circumstances [she] ends up being engaged to three different members of the Canadian Armed Forces,” Ayling says. “It’s set at the end of World War II in 1945 in Edmonton Alberta, and it’s about how she manages to deal with three men who want to marry her.”

Ayling says the show was written by Canadian playwright Holly Lewis.

“It’s always about the human interactions between all the players, all the characters, and this is an incredibly funny play. It’s all about seeing things that happen on stage that wouldn’t happen to you in your normal life.”

He says the show features a colorful set meant to recreate the style of a 1940s home.

“We’re trying to use colours from that day, and it’s actually more modern then you would think, but it’s a very bright comedy type set, and lots of good people have helped paint it.”

The Fiancé runs at GPLT every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from now until December 14, with a Sunday matinee December 8.

The performances planned for Friday November 29 and Saturday November 30 have been cancelled for personal reasons.
