Firefighters extinguish Peace River apartment fire

UPDATE: Reace Regional RCMP would like to thank a number of services and locals businesses that helped in the apartment fire on Thursday afternoon. Food, coffee, water, and other supplies that was brought for those displaced as well as emergency crews was very much appreciated.

RCMP also wants to highlight all other agencies that attended the scene or assisted with efforts to make emergency crews jobs easier including: Emergency Medical Services, ATCO, building management, Town of Peace River, and more.

Mounties say this fire has been investigated and is not suspicious in nature.

The Town of Peace River is reporting the apartment fire in the north end of town was extinguished early Friday November 29.

Traffic control measures were implemented Thursday, November 28 while fire services responded to the structure fire, first reported around 1:45 p.m.

Crews were on scene until 3:00 a.m. Friday morning putting out the blaze. A portion of the building was demolished to assist fire fighting efforts. No injuries have been reported.

A reception centre for affected residents has now closed and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Motorists and pedestrians are being advised to use caution around 99 Street and 77 Avenue, as road conditions may be icy due to the fire fighting efforts.

The Peace River Fire Department is thanking neighbouring fire departments for assisting with the situation.
