Unemployment numbers trending downwards

Statistics Canada says the unemployment rate for the economic area that takes in the Peace was at four per cent in November 2024, down from 4.4 per cent in November of last year.

The StatsCan. report says the areas population grew by 8800 people from November 2023 to November 2024, while the size of the labour force grew by 5100.

8400 people were looking for work in November this year compared to 9000 in November of 2023.

The unemployment rate in Alberta in November 2024 was 7.5 per cent, up from 7.3 per cent in October 2024.

Nationally, the unemployment rate last month was 6.1 per cent, compared to 5.3 per cent November 2023.
