Alberta RCMP issue over 1,900 tickets during National Safe Driving Week

Dec 11, 2024 | 4:12 PM

The Alberta RCMP issued 1,933 tickets during National Safe Driving Week from Dec. 1 to 7.

They took part in the initiative that included police forces from across the country.

Of the tickets issued, 18 were for careless driving, 18 for distracted driving, and 642 were for speeding. A ticket was also issued for an individual who was observed driving 80 km/hr over the speed limit.

Police also issued 159 Immediate Roadside Sanctions for impaired driving.

“December is a time for celebration,” said Sgt. Darin Turnbull, Alberta RCMP Traffic. “Many Albertans will be traveling across the province to see their friends and families. No matter what your holiday plans are, always be mindful of traffic safety. Saving a few minutes is not worth the risk.”

In addition, on Dec. 7, for National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day Mounties removed 54 impaired drivers from the roadways.

The Alberta RCMP worked with partners across the province and set up check stops to conduct mandatory alcohol screenings.

Police say traffic safety is everyone’s responsibility and that it is never safe to drive while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
