Grande Prairie Mayor says AI data centre project could bring global investment to Peace Region

The mayor of Grande Prairie is calling the Wonder Valley Project a testament to what the Peace Region can achieve through collaboration.

The Municipal District of Greenview has partnered with O’Leary Ventures to build what is expected to be the world’s largest AI Data Centre Industrial Park within the Greenview Industrial Gateway.

Mayor Jackie Clayton says Greenview has made a significant investment that will benefit the City and County of Grande Prairie as well.

“It will show us job creation and skills training (and bring) global investment into this region and I think it is really something to be proud of.”

“We worked very hard with the MD of Greenview, the city and the county in collaboration, showing the benefits of northwestern Alberta and really to highlight what is possible.”

In September of this year, the City and County of Grande Prairie and the MD of Greenview launched the Invest NW Alberta initiative, a joint marketing and promotional effort that pools resources and shares costs for advertising, promotional events, and trade shows.

“When you have a conversation about how we work together, we find solutions together,” says Clayton. “How we support each other? It just really goes to show the commitment that all the municipalities in this region have towards future growth and highlighting opportunities as we go forward.”

Clayton says each brings a different perspective to the table and has a different role to play.

“Our role is significant, Whether it’s in professional services, or health care services, whether it’s in identifying areas of economic opportunity, whether its having land identified for commercial areas. We are not successful as a region if we don’t all play our part.”

A statement released by Invest NW Alberta says it was the three community’s unified front that made Greenview a viable location for the data centre.
