“I’ll meet with the athletes, they’re quite young,” Forsyth says. “So, we talk a lot about kindness and respect and belonging. And also, very age-appropriate warning signs of some treatment that they may receive from their coaches, which is not good treatment. So, it’s done in a very age-appropriate way.”

A survivor of abuse in sports herself, Forsyth says she strives to ensure what happened to her doesn’t happen to other athletes.

“Even then, that now there’s so much that we see around maltreatment in sports, that I’ve extended my passion to really cover all forms of maltreatment,” she says. “From bullying and hazing to discrimination. I’m just really passionate about sports shifting to just being a really kind and respectful space.”

Forsyth says she had previously been to Grande Prairie in 1995 for the Canada Games, but the skiing competition was held in Jasper.

“We actually skied in Jasper,” she says. “The challenge of skiing at a level for Canada Games is to make sure that we have a hill that is steep enough and long enough. So, I’m excited to spend time on the hill, meet all the athletes, see if I can help and inspire and motivate them to enjoy our sport. And I’m looking forward to spending time on the hills there.”

The presentations are happening at the Delta Hotel at 7:00 p.m. February 1, the U12 races will be at Nitehawk Ski Hill February 1 and 2.
