Alberta Crime Stoppers launch new Rural Sign Campaign

Jan 21, 2025 | 10:17 AM

Two communities in Alberta are the first to be apart of a new initiative to encourage citizens to be more involved in their area and help keep Alberta a safe place to work, live, and play.

The provincial RCMP hosted Alberta Crimed Stoppers for their new Rural Sign Campaign for in both the City of Wetaskiwin and the Pikani First Nation.

Crime Stoppers works closely with the Alberta RCMP to report crimes happening across the province with tips from people that wish to remain anonymous. The new Rural Sign Campaign aims to bring communities together and raise awareness about Crime Stoppers.

Anonymous tips given to Crime Stoppers in 2024 led to hundreds of charges being laid and millions of dollars worth of stolen property to be recovered.

RCMP Community Safety and Well-being Branch Chief Superintendent Peter Tewfik said in a news release; “Ensuring the safety and building trust in the communities across Alberta is our top priority.'”

“We are proud to work with Crime Stoppers and appreciate all of the work that they do in bringing communities together and helping keep their fellow Albertans safe.” – Chief Super. Tewfik

Alberta Crime Stoppers chair Mark Holik said in the same release; “This initiative builds on the proud legacy of Crime Stoppers in Alberta… Programs like this empower residents to take an active role in crime prevention, ensuring that “what you see”, “what you hear” and “what you know” is shared through anonymous tips. This information helps our police partners solve crime, keeping our communities safe.”
