Local curlers at the Alberta women’s championship

The Curling Alberta Women’s Provincial Championship starts today (Wednesday, January 22) in Rimby and several teams and players from the Peace are taking part.

The Janais DeJong team from Grande Prairie and the Robyn Silvernagle rink from Sexsmith are both among the dozen teams taking part.

DeJong’s team includes third Stephanie Malekoff, second Delia DeJong and lead Rae-Lynn Beattie.

Silvernagle’s rink includes third Jesse Hunkin, second Jesse Haughian and lead Kristie Moore.

Team Skrlik, which includes Nampa-raised sisters Kayla and Ashton Skrlik at skip and second respectively, along with third Margot Flemming and lead Geri-Lynn Ramsey.

The first draw is at 1 p.m. DeJong will play Edmonton’s Nicky Kaufman with the winner moving on the play Silvernagle in the 7 p.m. draw

Skrlik also has a bye in Draw 1 and will open against the winner between Michelle Hartwell from Sherwood Park and Claire Booth from Edmonton, also in that 7 p.m. draw.

The final is set for Sunday. The winner will represent Alberta at the 2025 Scotties Tournament of Hearts starting on Valentine’s Day in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
