Jail time, probation after pursuit

Alberta Justice says a man charged after a 2023 police pursuit has been given jail time, probation, and driving prohibition.

Tyrone Vaughn Wiebe was given a one-year jail term on a charge of flight from a peace officer, plus 18-months probation on charges of mischief, use of an imitation firearm to commit a crime, and failure to comply with a release order.

Wiebe and Cheyanne House were arrested after an incident on July 18, 2023.

RCMP said at the time they received a report that some people had fired what was later found to be a pellet gun at another vehicle, the occupants of which included a 12-year-old.

A police pursuit started on eastbound 68 Avenue after a suspect vehicle sped away from an attempted traffic stop.

The chase continued into a rural area. Arrests were made after a tire deflation device was used to stop the vehicle.

House was given 12-months probation in July after pleading guilty to a mischief charge.

Jail time for one accused in Fairview

Alberta Justice says a Bezanson man has been given a 66-day jail sentence in connection with a November break-in near Fairview.

Dennis Grant Ford was sentenced after pleading guilty to a charge of shopbreaking with intent January 22 in Fairview court.

An arrest warrant was issued for co-accused Christopher Ryan Comer of Dawson Creek the same day after he failed to show up for court.

They were arrested on November 29, 2024, just before 2 a.m. after Fairview RCMP got a report of a break and enter at a business on Range Road 72.

Two suspects tried to get away but were arrested with the help of Police Dog Services.

Probation for accused after stolen property recovered in Grimshaw

Alberta Justice says a Grimshaw man charged after stolen property was recovered in that community has been given a sentence of nine months probation and a five-year firearm prohibition.

Brayden Joseph Whiteman was given the sentence January 22 in Fairview court after pleading guilty to charges of unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of stolen property over $5,000.

He was charged after a search of a home in Grimshaw on November 15, 2023, during which stolen property was recovered.

Peace Regional RCMP said at the time they worked with the Alberta RCMP’s Auto Theft Unit in an effort to reduce rural property crime.

Time served sentence after weapons arrest in Slave Lake

Alberta Justice says a man charged after a weapons arrest in May 2024, in Slave Lake has been given a sentence of time served in jail.

Byron Joseph Michael Beauregard was given 360-days time served after pleading guilty to charges of unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon, obstructing a peace officer, escaping lawful custody, and possession of a prohibited firearm on January 15 in Slave Lake court. Six other charges were withdrawn.

Beauregard was charged after an incident on May 3, 2024.

Slave Lake RCMP said at the time they got a report of a man who was refusing to leave a business.

Mounties say when they arrived at the scene, they found a man they thought may have been intoxicated by drugs and with a duffle bag at his side. Police recognized him as someone who had several warrants out for his arrest.

He was arrested and EMS was called because he was intoxicated.

A search of the bag turned up a sawed-off shotgun, ammunition, and a knife.

Two men charged after shelter in place order sentenced

Alberta Justice says a second man charged after a shelter order was issued in Fort Vermilion last May has been sentenced.

Ryan Auger was given concurrent sentences of 45-days time served January 20 in Fort Vermilion court after earlier pleading guilty to separate counts of assault/intent to resist arrest.

On December 3, co-accused Elmer Didzena was given a 90-day sentence, minus 89-days credit for time already spent in custody. He pleaded guilty to seven charges, including resisting a peace officer, threats to cause bodily harm, and multiple firearms and failure to comply charges.

Both originally faced attempted murder and assault with a weapon charges.

On May 6, 2024, Fort Vermilion RCMP said at the time they received a report of shots fired at a home outside of the community. Mounties said one man had non-life threatening gunshot wounds.

The shelter in place was issued as the suspect vehicle was headed towards Fort Vermilion, prompting the shelter in place.

The vehicle was later found abandoned and a firearm was found inside.Arrests were made a short time later as well.
