Highlights from Monday’s meeting of Grande Prairie City Council

Jan 28, 2025 | 6:00 AM

Besides the discussion about Aquatera rates, there were a couple highlights from Monday’s meeting of Grande Prairie City council.

– Council approved having city administration meet with Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities to finalize an agreement that would see an upgraded and accessible playground installed at Lion’s Park. The owners of the local store have come up with a $950,000 donation for the project. There would also be a city contribution. Besides the playground, bathrooms would be upgraded and disabled parking added. The new playground would be called the Jumpstart Inclusive Playground.

– Councillor Wendy Bosch told council that memberships at the Eastlink Centre had passed 10,000 for the first time ever. The city got a thank you letter from the Grande Prairie Piranhas Swim Team, thanking it for installing a new results display board and electronic timing system, calling this “an outstanding piece of equipment.”

Council’s next meeting is set for February 10.
