Jan 30, 2025 | 1:35 PM

UPDATE at 3;30 p.m. Thursday January 30:

Fox Creek RCMP are providing an update on the multiple collisions along Highway 43.

Mounties are slowly making progress in re-opening the highway with one southbound lane now open, and crews working to open a northbound lane.

So far, RCMP has given one ticket to a semi-driver for following too closely and not driving to the conditions; RCMP Sargent Brand says “we will do more if we have too.”

Mountie suggest semi trucks “take the time to chain up in these conditions, the hills can be quite slippery and there is no chance of stopping.”

Additionally, Mounties are asking drivers to be aware of emergency crews on the road and give them room to work, as they have already had to deal with multiple instances of people on their phones while passing.

More updates are expected

Fox Creek RCMP are currently responding to multiple collisions along Highway 43.

This has led to the entire roadway being impassable at this time, as icy road conditions have caused “several semis and other vehicles” to collide.

RCMP ask anyone planning on travelling today to find an alternate route and give plenty of time to first responders working to reopen the highway.

Calls to the EverythingGP newsroom have reported extremely poor road conditions on Highway 43, with traffic stopped in both directions, in multiple locations, between Grande Prairie and Edmonton.

According to 511 Alberta, the entire Highway from Debolt to Alberta Beach is listed as partly, or fully covered in snow and ice.
