Firearm complaint leads Peace Regional RCMP to arrest wanted individual

Peace Regional RCMP arrested one individual and seized an illegal weapon on Friday, January 31, after a report from the community.

At 10 a.m., Peace Regional RCMP got a firearm complaint in the Cadotte Lake area.

Mounties along with the RCMP Crime Reduction Team (CRT), and Police Dog Services were then dispatched to “quickly secure the area,” to ensure “the safety of community members.”

Once on the scene, Officer’s then “learned of a new location of the suspect,” and attended a residence in the Simon Lake area.

At this residence, RCMP contained the scene and apprehended the suspect, leading to the seizure of a sawed-off shotgun with ammunition.

Chester Jr. Eskagon, a 26-year-old Simon Lake resident had eight new charges laid against him:

  • Aggravated assault
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of firearm when unauthorized
  • Four counts of resisting/obstructing a police officer

Eskagon was also wanted on two warrants; assault causing bodily harm and uttering threats.

He was remanded into custody with a court date set for today (Monday, February 3).

At this time, the investigation is still ongoing, and Peace Regional RCMP would like “to extend gratitude to community members for their assistance thus far.”
