City council to discuss design for twinning work on two Grande Prairie roads

Feb 13, 2025 | 6:00 AM

A city committee is recommending council approve doing more work on the future of 116 Street and 132 Avenue than first planned.

Funding for a study of the intersection of the two roads was included in the 2025 budget.

Now, council will look adding $325,000 from a reserve fund to also look at design work for twinning 132 Avenue between 116 and 103 Streets, along with two sections of 116 Street: the part from 104 to 132 Avenues and the section from 84 to 68 Avenues.

The total cost would be $500,000.

A city study says the 116-132 intersection is near to over capacity at times.

City staff told the committee that design work alone would take one to two years, adding the earliest construction would start in three to four years.

Council’s next meeting is on February 24.
