Comp. students compete in regional rugby tournament and wrestling competition

Over the past month, multiple students of the Grande Prairie Composite High School have been representing the Phoenix in different sporting tournaments across the province.

Rugby

The local GP Warriors County Men and Women’s U18 teams competed down in Alberta’s capital over two weekends for the Alberta Regional Championship Sevens. The boys played on January 18-19, whereas the girls played the following weekend on January 25-26.

Three boys, Jaren Alaimoana, Faarman Sharma, and Austin Jefferies, and two girls, Lyla Bartlett and Hailey Senecal, are students at the GP Comp are on these teams. The boys ended up in fifth and the girls in sixth.

These teams are headed to the Vancouver Invitational Sevens Tournament on the weekend of February 20-21. Four of the Comp’s students have been selected to play in this event on the U18 teams. Alaimoana has been selected as a V.Captain for his team.

Wrestling

Jaren Alaimoana also competes in wrestling. He won silver in the Golden Bears High School Invitational Wrestling Showdown in the 90KG weight class down in Edmonton on February 1.
