New family doctor practising in Grande Prairie

Another physician has joined the team at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital and the Grande Prairie Primary Care Network After-Hours Clinic.

Dr. Ehioze (Oz) Iosa is from Nigeria, but had been living and practising in Calgary since 2008, and moved to northern Alberta in January.

He will be supporting the emergency department, inpatient and outpatient services, and long-term care at the GPRH and providing community care at the after-hours clinic.

MLA for Grande Prairie Nolan Dyck says it’s great news to welcome Dr. Iosa to our community.

“Primary care physicians play a pivotal role in healthcare. His support to local residents will help ensure they have continued access to timely healthcare.”

MLA for Grande Prairie Wapiti Ron Wiebe says Dr. Iosa will be a tremendous asset to our healthcare system.

“His commitment to providing care at the hospital and the after-hours clinic is truly appreciated, and we are fortunate to have him as part of our community.”

Alberta Health Services says that Dr. Iosa enjoys in his free time reading, travelling, soccer and social events.

The healthcare authority says as a part of an overall physician recruitment strategy, they have three resource planners in the North Zone looking for doctors domestically and internationally to come to northern Alberta. The planners work closely with partner organizations like the Rural Health Care Professionals Action Plan as well as local, independent community physician attraction and retention programs.
