Grande Prairie RCMP sharing rough estimation of January 2025 police events

The Grande Prairie RCMP have shared a snapshot of the offences taking place in the city and rural areas.

The detachment has released its rough crime statistics for the first month of 2025.

The Mounties’ rough estimates show the total number of police events in the city have been reduced, going from 2385 in January of 2024, to 2234 in January of 2025.

Breaking up the events into different categories shows that 26 break & enter incidents were reported in the City in January of 2025, a step down from 34 in January of 2024, while theft of motor vehicles also decreased in the City from 35 in January 2024, to 30 in January 2025.

In rural communities, Break and Enter, Theft of a Motor Vehicle and Possession of Stolen property saw a small increase, while theft of a motor vehicle has been reduced.

The RCMP detachment says these numbers are still raw and do not reflect their official crime statistics.
