2025 Mighty Peace Teacher’s Convention

Mar 6, 2025 | 7:00 AM

The Mighty Peace Teacher’s Convention will get going today, (Thursday, March 6) as educators take over Charles Spencer and St. Joe’s High Schools.

Until Friday, teachers from all over the Peace Region will get together to “recharge, connect, develop and grow,” according to Whispering Ridge Vice Principal Peter Bailey.

“The convention always has pretty good keynote speakers, and they have a mix of practical sessions and then sessions on theory for educators. But the thing I look forward to most, and I think I speak for a lot of teachers, is the chance to collaborate with colleagues.”

Bailey added this will also be his first year as a presenter; “I’m presenting with the principal and the other assistant principal of Whispering Ridge Community School, and the name of our session is ‘Leading With Laughter’ so it’s a humourous presentation about experiences and things we encounter as principles of a school.”

His presentation will run Thursday at St. Joe’s starting at 12:10 p.m., and although the presentation is tailored to admin and leadership, Bailey says it is open to all.

With a vast lineup of differing sessions to educate teachers, and the whole event taking place at schools; Bailey called it fitting as “It’s kind of like giving us a chance to be students for a change.”

“As teachers, we always look for opportunities to enhance our practice and you know with a busy school year we don’t always have the opportunity to do so during the work week. So it’s really nice to have those two days to come together and take a look at our practice, talk about teaching theory, and gain some practical resources and practices that we can bring back to the classroom next week.”

The convention will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, then from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday.
