GGC launches own campaign related to the federal election

Apr 2, 2025 | 4:29 PM

Grain Growers of Canada has launched a campaign of its own as part of the federal election campaign.

Vote for Grain is a website where farmers can send an email to all the candidates in their riding.

It also includes a list of issues and some information on the stances of the four main parties.

That list includes supporting tariff-free access, permanently cutting the carbon tax for on-farm activities and reversing the capital gains tax increase.

GGC chair and Acme, Alberta farmer Tara Sawyer says in a release that farmers “are being hit from all sides.”

“Trade uncertainty causing a fall in commodity prices, rising input costs, and increasing government taxation and regulation are putting intense pressure on farmers. This election—and the decisions made in the years to come—will determine the future of Canadian grain farming. Political parties need to understand what’s at stake and commit to supporting our sector.”
