A player originally from Grande Prairie is one of the finalists for the Rookie of the Year Award in the Western Hockey League.

Lukas Sawchyn recorded 15 goals and 55 points in his first season with the Edmonton Oil Kings, putting him fifth in scoring among rookies in the WHL.

He was third on the team in points and second in assists with 40, trailing only his brother Gracyn.

Lukas also had a ten-game points streak earlier this season.

The Oil Kings are in Prince Alberta Tuesday night for Game 7 of their opening-round playoff series.

The winner will move on to play Medicine Hat in Round 2.
