A new report says Grande Prairie had the fastest growing cost to rent an apartment in March, while at the same time being one of the most affordable places in Canada.

The report from Rentals.ca says Grande Prairie saw apartment rent go up 14.1 per cent in March of this year, compared to March of last year.

Three cities in Quebec, Sherbrooke, Longueuil and Brossard, then Medicine Hat and Red Deer, were next on the list of highest average rent increases.

The same report says that among 25 of the top markets in Canada, a group that excludes the six largest cities in the country, Grande Prairie ranked seventh on the list of lowest average asking price for apartments at $1,424 per month. The report says this is for purpose built and condo rental apartments. It did break down cost by number of bedrooms.

Grande Prairie was one of five Alberta cities among the ten most affordable places based on the average cost for an apartment in Canada in March

The lowest average rent on that list is in Lloydminster at $1,206.
