The new Blueberry Fire Hall is officially open.
Saddle Hills County held a ribbon cutting ceremony Saturday to commemorating the completion of the project.
Reeve Kristen Smith says the new fire hall will benefit the entire community.
“There’s been a desire for many years,” says Smith. “We were just trying to find the location a good place in order to situate, to ensure it can reach all the residents and all the areas that it serves in a timely fashion. After picking the location it took two years [to complete construction].”
Blueberry Fire Department Chief Brent Konstapel says the new hall will provide far more space than their previous building.
“We have this awesome training room, that’s standing for meetings and everything,” Konstapel says. “[We have] more room for the trucks and walking around. Even doing work on the trucks and training with them. We had to take everything outside of the old hall to do anything, any work outside.”
Smith says that there are still a few tasks to complete before the project is fully finished.
“Just working on landscaping and those kind of things around the building, to ensure that the yard stays in good shape, no matter the weather the firetrucks can get in and out of here,” she says. “There’s a new firetruck that was supposed to be here already, but unfortunately there’s delays in delivery and it should be here in a couple weeks.”
She says a new fire hall is currently in development for the Happy Valley area as well.
