City of Grande Prairie shares FireSmart Alberta home checklist

The City of Grande Prairie and Fire Smart Alberta are sharing a list of everyday chores, that can help wildfire prevention efforts in your community.

Those chores include maintaining your lawn and your home’s exterior, having wood piles moved away from your home, cleaning under decks, keeping your gutters bare and assessing your eaves and vents.

Fire Smart also provided a number of tips to keep your home safe; understanding the three ignition zones of your property, using fire-resistant siding, doors and windows, and keeping on-site fire tools like axes and sprinklers at your home.

In the release, the City encourages residents to take these “proactive steps to reduce the risk of wildfires.”
