Stolen vehicle report leads to multiple charges against two people

Apr 13, 2025 | 6:00 AM

Grande Prairie RCMP says that someone who tried to report a vehicle stolen is now one of two people facing charges in a stolen vehicle investigation.

Police say they got a stolen vehicle report on March 20. Their investigation found that the VIN number provided by the person making the report was fake, as was the VIN for a second vehicle owned by the same person.

Mounties then conducted a search at a residence on March 26.

RCMP recovered six vehicles that were either stolen of fraudulent, five other vehicles that are under investigation and five firearms, one of which was also stolen. Police say the value of the stolen vehicles is over $500,000.

Two people from Sexsmith have been charged.

Sean Mason, 43, is facing charges that include public mischief, multiple counts of tampering a VIN number and possession of property obtained by crime, along with a long list of firearms charges.

The charges against 29 year old Jamie Foster also include multiple counts of tampering a VIN number and possession of property obtained by crime, and firearms charges.

Mason is still at large. Foster is due in court April 23.
