Guilty plea in MD of Smoky River drug arrest

Alberta Justice says one of the two people charged after a 2024 drug arrest in the MD of Smoky River has pleaded guilty to one charge.

Muhktar Ali of Nampa admitted to a charge of possession for the purpose of trafficking April 10 in Peace River Court of King’s Bench. There is no word yet on his other charges. Ali is due back in court July 4.

Alberta Justice says a stay of proceedings is in place against co-accused Hayes Fuller-Garand of Warburg, Alberta.

A trial had been scheduled for April 9 and 10.

They were arrested after an incident on June 18, 2024.

McLennan RCMP said at the time they got a report of a suspicious vehicle located in the MD of Smoky River, a vehicle police later found stuck in a farmer’s field.

The truck turned out to be stolen.

Mounties searched the truck and seized suspected fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine, weapons, ammunition, and stolen property.

Charges withdrawn in kidnapping, robbery, assault case

Alberta Justice says all charges have been withdrawn against two men from BC facing a list of counts in Grande Prairie court that included kidnapping, robbery, and assault.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled for March 13 for Joshua Hamm of Maple Ridge and Karl Hildebrandt of Prince George, but all charges were withdrawn in February.

They were charged after a break in just after 1:00 a.m. on July 26, 2023, at a Grande Prairie motel.

Mounties said they heard from witnesses that two men had used an axe to force their way into a room. Everyone was gone when police arrived and RCMP concluded that the person staying in the room had been abducted.

The victim and two suspects were located a short time later.

Charges withdrawn in weapons theft case

Alberta Justice says charges against two people charged in an ALERT weapons investigation have been withdrawn.

Tasha Lanz and Denai Lanz were due to have a preliminary hearing in March, but their charges were withdrawn in February.

They were charged after four handguns, five rifles, ten shotguns, and 500 rounds of ammunition were stolen from a Grande Prairie home. ALERT said at the time that all were owned and stored legally.

The two were charged on September 11, 2024.

Valleyview drug investigation court case update

A court case involving a 2024 drug investigation in Valleyview is nearing completion.

Alberta Justice says all changes against Brandon Lee Munro were withdrawn April 7 in Valleyview court.

Earlier, a 36-month jail sentence was given to Mitchell Trottier after he pleaded guilty to charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon.

A stay of proceedings has been in place since July 2024, in the case against two other people, Jordana Goodswimmer and Gail Isadore.

All four were arrested after a search of a Valleyview home on January 25, 2024.

RCMP said at the time they seized 780 grams of methamphetamine, 180 grams of cocaine, cash, a prohibited firearm, two prohibited weapons, several edged weapons, and ammunition during that search.

Fort Vermilion/ Fox Lake shots fired case update

Alberta Justice says a stay of proceedings is now in place for the case against one of the four people charged after a shots fired investigation by Fort Vermilion/Fox Lake RCMP, while charges have been withdrawn against two others.

Luke Hank Laboucan and Stanley Bill Laboucan were to stand trial March 18. All of Stanley’s charges were withdrawn, while a stay of proceedings has been in place for Luke’s case since January.

Charges against John Ringo St. Arnault were withdrawn in November, while Dusty Eric Laboucan paid a $650 fine after admitting to a charge of contravening firearm storage regulations.

Mounties said at the time on June 14, 2024, they got a report of shots fired in Fox Lake. Three people were arrested. A search of a home turned up five long guns, two sets of body armour, and what police called “a small amount of suspected cocaine.”

St. Arnault was arrested the next day.
