Mounties in Fort St. John say on Monday, April 14, 2025 before 6:00 p.m. they were notified of a possible explosion north west of the city.

RCMP say that investigation is in the early stages and WorkSafe BC is also involved in police investigation. No evidence suggests criminality was involved.

The BC Energy Regulator also put out a statement on the incident. They say a pipe was struck on the Tourmaline Gundy c-60 gas plant, that in turn sparked a fire.

The fire was extinguished early Tuesday morning.

Tourmaline has confirmed one worker passed away due to the incident, and another is being treated in hospital. The company says it extends its “deepest sympathies and condolences to the family, friends, and co-workers of the individuals.”

The plant is undamaged after the incident, and was shut down when the fire broke out. It remained shut down as of Tuesday afternoon.
