NWP to host “Realistic Emergency Scenario” for students

Apr 23, 2025 | 7:00 AM

Residents passing Northwestern Polytechnic on Thursday, April 24, may hear or see emergency vehicles, loud noises, helicopters and simulated casualties.

However, the post-secondary institution wants to ensure the public that “there is no actual emergency.”

A large-scale, realistic emergency scenario will be hosted in NWP’s parking lot from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for their EMS and nursing students.

Over 100 people from RCMP, EMS, Fire Departments, GP Police Services, STARS, volunteer actors, and emergency personnel will help nursing and paramedic students work through this hands-on simulation.

The simulation will run in NWP’s parking lot south of the STARS heli-pad.

Grande Prairie RCMP says “this critical training aims at enhancing overall emergency preparedness, strengthening teamwork, improving multi-agency collaboration and refining individual responder skills.”
