Makeshift meth lab found and dismantled in wooded area near Trout Lake

Apr 30, 2025 | 12:00 PM

Mounties in Red Earth Creek say an abandoned vehicle complaint led to them finding firearms and chemical precursors for making meth.

A complaint from the public came to RCMP on April 19, 2025, of an abandoned vehicle near Trout Lake that seemed to contain stolen property.

Trout Lake is only accessible in the winter 100 km away from Red Earth Creek, but accessible in the warmer months by driving through Wabasca.

Wabasca RCMP assisted and upon arriving to the scene, the vehicle was found but most of the contents had been moved to a nearby wooded area.

A tent was set up for cooking meth with firearms and chemical precursors close by.

The RCMP Federal Policing Northwest Region’s Clandestine Laboratory Enforcement and Response (CLEAR) team was called in to assist and ensure the area was made safe. The lab was dismantled with precursors and all three firearms seized.

No methamphetamine was found at the scene.

Red Earth Creek RCMP is asking for the public’s assistance in regards to this incident. Anyone with information is asked to please contact the Red Earth Creek RCMP detachment at 780-649-3990, or their local police.
