final Wildfire update

Deer Ridge Estates wildfire “under control”

May 6, 2025 | 3:45 PM

The County of Grande Prairie provided its final update on the Deer Ridge Estates wildfire.

As of 3:30 p.m. today (Tuesday, May 6), the fire is classified as under control.

As a result, GPREP has been deactivated, and fire crews from Northern Sunrise County and the MD of Smoky River have been sent home.

Residents in the area are asked to call 911 if they see any open flames, as County crews will remain on the scene to monitor the area.

Residents can expect continued smoke over the next few days as hot spots in hard-to-reach areas burn themselves out.

ATCO crews will also be on site for the next couple of days, repairing any damaged infrastructure.

The evacuation order for Deer Ridge Estates was lifted last night (Monday, May 5) at 7 p.m.

At this time, the wildfire danger rating in the Grande Prairie Forest Area remains very high.
